ROLE DESCRIPTION & PURPOSE

The Tax Compliance Accountant assists in  multiple tax engagements and supports tax requests to deliver quality tax services for Franciscan Alliance. This role is also expected to stay up-to-date with industry, IRS, and government regulations through continuing education and subscriptions to professional journals. The Tax Compliance Accountant plays a critical role in working with the Controller to provide insights on tax compliance across the System.They are primarily responsible for the preparation of support for the various IRS and State tax returns (e.g. 990s, 990-Ts,1120s, K-1s, etc.) and for the collection and reporting of property tax returns.

THE PAYGRADE FOR THIS POSITION IS: 116C

PRINCIPLE DUTIES
  • Prepare, review, and file tax returns, Federal, State, Sales and Use tax returns, etc.
  • Complete and maintain 855, 990 forms; manage overall tax data and systems
  • Assists in performing tax planning activities for the System, divisions, and sites; communicate and recommend opportunities and implement as appropriate
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations; communicate changes and associated implications with the VP of Finance and Controller
  • Assists with research and planning on current tax laws and evaluates the tax impact of current and proposed organization activities and transactions
  • Identify and recommend ways to minimize tax liability in accordance with current tax laws
  • Oversee and maintain tax master records
  • Support internal and external audit requests
  • Conduct property tax exemptions, processes payments, and works with legal as necessary
  • Inform Divisional CFOs and business leaders on strategic tax data insights that are easy to understand and utilize
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in tax
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • Not for Profit Tax and Healthcare experience preferred
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills
  • Digital awareness skills, particularly expertise with Microsoft Excel
  • Adept at researching and interpreting tax regulations and guidance
  • Self-starters who take initiative, can problem solve and are adaptable
  • Serviced-focused and promotes cross-functional partnerships
  • Domain expertise in tax accounting, rules and policies
  • Capability to extract required information from enterprise-wide accounting software and other systems
