ROLE DESCRIPTION & PURPOSE

At Franciscan, our Cost Accountants will be part of a team that helps migrates Franciscan Alliance toward an advanced costing framework and to develop and implement associated policies, processes, cost development, and reporting. In this role our Cost Accountants are responsible for conducting the cost variance analysis, building cost models for hospitals, physician, post-acute, and other cost related activities to ensure accuracy on reporting. They prepare cost accounting reports, maintains/updates cost allocation methodologies, maintains/reconciles all aspects of the cost accounting system and supporting data, assembles cost data to assist with budgeting and utilities external benchmarks for cost comparison purposes. This role also assists with the analysis and preparation of financial and management reporting. They will need to work routine with local business partners, shared services, and other members of the COE.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES
  • Multiple positions available
  • Perform cost analysis and identify areas for cost improvement; create cost estimates for new functions/service lines and reimbursement methodologies
  • Maintain and update the cost accounting system and ensures accuracy of standard costs
  • Develop and implement advanced costing model techniques
  • Work with RVU development (particularly procedural areas for time studies and resource utilization)
  • Incorporate acquisition cost from feeder systems and reconcile cost models to the general ledger
  • Build cost models for hospitals, physician, post-acute, and other cost related activities
  • Oversee and support month-end close responsibilities; participate in year-end close and financial statement preparation
  • Prepare forecasts and annual budgets for production costs and absorption; provide recommendations to improve processes, output and business results
  • Ensure cost accounting transactions are in accordance with GAAP and Franciscan Alliance policies
  • Research and recommend enhancements toward migrating to an advanced costing methodology
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience (as applicable) in accounting and cost accounting
  • Knowledge of GAAP and cost accounting standards required
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Cost Accountant (CCA) preferred
  • Healthcare experience preferred
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills
  • Strong technology skills are critical, particularly expertise with Microsoft Excel
  • Self-starters who take initiative, possess attention to detail and can quickly learn accounting operations and processes
  • Capability to extract required information from enterprise-wide accounting software and other systems
