WHAT WE NEED

RN lactation consultant

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Patients and families receiving education and support often need guidance and counseling to help them feel at ease to a variety of concerns. Our Nurse Lactation Consultants are the support our patients and families need. These are the people who work with our patients and families to give them the support and counseling they are looking for.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Adapt and implement teaching and counseling techniques to level of patient and family comprehension.
  • Validate and document patient understanding related to teaching and counseling provided.
  • Utilize teaching manuals and other educational resources effectively.
  • Review procedure(s) as requested.
  • Share new knowledge at a unit/staff meeting.          
  • Accurately transcribe and implement physician orders seeking clarification if needed.
  • Obtain accurate nursing history and documents on appropriate patient records.
  • Assess, document, and report physiological and behavioral changes of the patient.
  • Initiate and monitor clinical pathways where appropriate.
  • Formulate an accurate nursing plan of care considering cultural, environmental, psychosocial, economic factors and values.
  • Initiate discharge planning upon admission.
  • Implement prescribed treatment and nursing plan of care on a regular basis.
  • Evaluate and revise plan of care as needed.

WHAT IT TAKES TO SUCCEED

  • Demonstrate competence in basic nursing skills.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in technical and special skills relevant to area of clinical practice.
  • Maintain established safety, environmental, and infection control standards and takes appropriate corrective action for identified infractions.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, medical staff, personnel, the public and other hospital departments.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of breastfeeding physiology and common challenges and interventions.

1-3 Years Experience

License(s): Registered Nurse

Certification(s): Lactation Consultant

Travel: Never or Rarely
