Cyber Security Specialist 

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

The Senior Cyber Security Specialist investigates and analyzes all response activities related to cyber incidents within the network environment or enclave. They collect data from a variety of Computer Network Defense (CND) tools, including intrusion detection system alerts, firewall and network traffic logs, and host system logs to analyze events that occur within their environment. WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Periodically review the configurations of firewalls, web filtering, intrusion prevention and other platforms for which Security Operations is responsible, ensuring rulesets are effectively and efficiently used to optimize protection and detection capabilities. 
  • Work with Security Architects to develop roadmaps and implementation plans for upgrading, enhancing or replacing security technologies for which the Cyber Security Operations team is responsible. 
  • Analyze vulnerability scanning jobs to ensure scans align with changing threat landscapes, address false positives and false negatives; stay current on published vulnerabilities.
  • Function in the role of security incident response coordinator as needed; follow established procedures and protocols; maintain required documentation in accordance with policy and best practices.
  • Review reports from centralized log management system, take action where necessary or assign an Admin or Specialist to take action. 
  • Support efforts to design, plan, execute, and report on tabletop exercises.
  • Evaluate opportunities to feasibly automate aspects of security operations for simplification of security operations; oversee implementation.
  • Design and implement “light” versions of penetration tests; work with 3rd parties to conduct pen tests, including ones designed as “stimulus-response” for the centralized log management system.  
  • Assist in the collection, creation, and analysis of security operations metrics.
  • Create and review cyber security operational policies, procedures, and standards.
WHAT IT TAKES TO SUCCEED
  • Prior experience in an Information Technology or Information Security Department.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA, PCI DSS, State PII laws governing Franciscan, and industry standard frameworks such as NIST, ISO 2700x, CIS Top 20 Controls, HICP.
  • In-depth understanding of the types of events of interest in electronic logs.
  • In-depth understanding of firewall, web filtering, and Intrusion Detection / Prevention System configuration, operation, and maintenance.
  • Understand methodology of conducting vulnerability scans and choosing scanning tests commensurate with vulnerability scanning needs and goals; understand the potential impacts of the scans in a healthcare environment.
  • Strong familiarity with security incident response activities, protocols and best practices.
  • Understand the differences between policies, standards and procedures and possesses good command of drafting content for each.


WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

 

Required:   Associates Degree in an IT-related discipline (e.g. Computer Science, MIS, Information Security) or a minimum of 5 years’ experience in an Information Technology or Information Security Department.

 

Preferred:  Bachelor of Science Degree in an IT-related discipline (e.g. Computer Science, MIS, Information Security).
Preferred:  Minumum 5 years' experience in the healthcare industry; experience in security operation activities aligning with essential jobs functions. 

Preferred:  Any industry-recognized certification related to vulnerability scanning/management, Centralized log management, firewalls, IPS/IDS, or incident response.

 

Travel: Up to 20%
