WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Operational oversight for the HIM department (record processing, transcription, phyisician chart completion, meaningful use, record retention and destruction, release of information, and medical record integrity, EHR workflows).
  • Assist the Executive Director Corporate HIM Division with oversight and implementation of corporate operational planning, budgets, workflow processes, and internal controls.
  • Serve as a liaison between the regional leadership and System Director Corporate Coding for coding related items.
  • Serve as a liaison between the regional leadership/employees and Corporate Manager Data Integrity and Data Integrity Team for chart correction and data integrity related items.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on hospital health information management related laws and regulations including: release of information, medical records management, confidentiality, information storage and retrieval, record retention, legal medical record, and electronic health record.
  • Understand integration efforts and participates in document mapping for integrity of the Legal Health Record.
  • Manage communication efforts with HIM personnel within the ministry, facility department leadership, facility leadership, and medical staff including project related facility core team meetings.
  • Formulate staffing plan and scope of service, altering staff levels based on volumes, complexity, and service intensity, ensuring adequate staffing.
  • Operational oversight for the HIM department (record processing, transcription, physician chart completion, meaningful use, record retention and destruction, release of information, and medical record integrity, EHR workflows)
  • Create an environment that employees desire to work in and maintains high level of employee satisfaction.
  • Responsible for preparation and maintenance of departmental policy and procedures in compliance with Corporate HIM Division requirements and standards.
  • Ensure productivity and quality standards related to HIM operational processes are maintained or exceeded.
  • Manage all facility HIM responsible EHR workflow queues according to established workflow guidelines and schedules.
  • In conjunction with, and under the leadership of the Executive Director Corporate HIM Division, serves as a liaison between the Corporate HIM Division and facility leadership within each ministry to build and maintain strategic working relationships with the facility and department leadership; working through specific issues, participating in committees, and providing monthly updates. 
  • Monitors adherence to Franciscan EHR standardization decisions vetted through appropriate approval processes; escalates when deviations are identified; assists with resolution.
  • Prepares for external agency (e.g. HFAP, SDOH) reviews of the facility; ensures department’s compliance with relevant accreditation, certification, and government agencies; develops action plans related to accreditation survey findings.
  • May coordinate or serve in conjunction with other HIM Administrative Directors or Executive Director on corporate committees.
  • Resource to  legal counsel and privacy officer regarding litigation cases, HIPAA regulations, and amendment requests.
  • Maintains quality staff through appropriate recruitment and focus on staff retention and recognition, continued education, and skill acknowledgment.
WHAT IT TAKES TO SUCCEED
  • Health information management (HIM) operations experience.
  • HIM management and leadership experience.
  • Experience with electronic health record.
  • Communicate clearly with patients, payer representatives, vendor representatives, and all levels of management both at the Corporate Office and throughout the System while maintaining HIPAA compliance.
  • Provide support and input to management for opportunities of continuous quality improvement.

7 + years Experience HIM Leadership Operatiions required , 5 + years EHR 

Certification(s): RHIT or RHIA

Travel: Never or Rarely
