Medical databases such as the Cancer Registry are important tools for medical professionals across the country. WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Abstract cancer-related data according to ICD-10, American College of Surgeons, American Joint Commission On Cancer (AJCC) and other guidelines to generate reports regarding cancer surveillance and improvement of care.
  • Assist in performing quality assurance reviews.
  • Assist monthly and annually data submission process to ensure compliance with the American College of Surgeons, American Joint Commission On Cancer (AJCC) and other guidelines.
  • Facilitate and organize tumor board and other case conferences.
  • Gather and code patient, cancer and treatment information from numerous sources; maintain and update existing patient records, and verify and review cancer registry data and correct any discrepancies.
  • Monitor, report, and record tumor registry activities to ensure compliance with Commission On Cancer (CoC) and other accreditations.
  • Process data requests, compile reports and calculate statistics from the tumor registry.
  • Review patient cases, identify potential cases for the registry and assess whether the case is reportable, is already reported, or could potentially be recorded in a file of non-reportable cases.
WHAT IT TAKES TO SUCCEED
  • Prior Tumor Registry experience. 
  • Knowledge of professional regulation and facility/program accreditation requirements.
  • Customer service skills.
  • Manipulate data and develop reports.
  • Data entry.
  • Common diagnostic procedures.
  • Laboratory diagnostic tests.
  • Critically evaluate and analyze information in written materials.
  • Handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical terminology, generic and trade names, and ICD coding.
  • Quality improvement processes. 
  • Effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledgeable in the areas of anatomy, physiology, clinical oncology, radiobiology and radiation physics.
